Weld Fume Extraction Investment to Further Protect Adey Team
Adey Steel Group have recently invested in and commissioned 40 new ‘on torch’ weld fume extraction units in partnership with our industrial supplies partner Fosters Industrial. The drive by the HSE to ensure appropriate measures of fume extraction in steel fabrication environments has stemmed from the reclassification of weld fume as a carcinogen linked to long term health risks.
The new units have been rolled out across the production facility in order to reduce the risk of weld fume inhalation to our fabricators and welders but also to all other employees, contractor and visitors working in and around the production shop floor. The reduction in weld fume is immediately noticeable with the products proving to be a versatile addition to our standard welding equipment.
The on torch extraction is an additional measure above existing mitigation systems of extraction hoods and individual air fed respirators. The technology works by providing air/fume extraction at the source of the welding torch before drawing the fumes to the mobile filter unit where activated carbon filtration units removes gas and ozone fumes, rendering it safe to be expelled back into the factory environment.
The £100,000 investment forms part of our ongoing upgrades programme to our factory safety and efficiency with crane capacity increases falling as our next project in April 2021.
