15th annual apprenticeship week
2022 marks the 15th annual apprenticeship week – which runs between the 7th and 13th of February this year. This year’s theme – continuing on from 2021 – focuses on #BuildTheFuture, which considers the benefits of apprenticeships on individual businesses and local communities. This is especially important given the current climate with the Covid pandemic making it more challenging for young people to secure work experience opportunities. It seems we’re on the way out but work experience opportunities will see high demand as large numbers of young people look to fill the gaps left by lockdown restrictions. The week aims to encourage individuals of any age to make moves towards their careers goals by building skills and knowledge through an apprenticeship. Apprenticeship schemes are key for building a skills supply for now and the future – developing a talented workforce that is equipped with future-ready skills.
An apprenticeship combines on-the-job training with classroom learning as you are employed to do a real job whilst studying for a formal qualification. You will be following an approved study programme that helps you gain a nationally recognised qualification, providing a direct route to future employment. The typical duration of these schemes tends to be between 1 and 6 years – with the typical Adey Steel apprenticeship lasting around 18 months. This route provides an alternative path to education that ensures professions and industries have the skilled workers that they need.
Adey Steel currently has 4 vacancies for apprenticeships in Steel Fabrication and Welding to kickstart your career in engineering. You will undertake an approved learning programme – learning all of the relevant aspects of fabrication and welding to produce fabricated steel items to customer specification and order requirements. The training is provided by Leicester College – one of our key education partners.
