Adey Steel hosts Apprenticeship Open Day
The Adey Steel Group has hosted an Apprenticeship Open Day.
The specialist steel fabricators, which are based on a purpose-built, five-acre site in Loughborough, are huge advocates of apprenticeships.
The family-owned-and-operated business has been operating an award-winning employer apprenticeship programme with Leicester College for well over 10 years.
And following its appearance at the Leicester College Apprenticeship Fair on the Freemen’s Park Campus in Leicester during National Apprenticeship Week, the Adey Steel Group invited a dozen prospective fabricator / welders they had met at the Leicester College event to learn more about working life at the company as part of an apprentice recruitment drive over the coming months.
The would-be apprentices, who were aged between 16 and 34, were given a detailed tour of the company’s facilities on the Falcon Industrial Park during the day. They also spent time hearing first hand about life as an fabricator / welder from apprentices past and present.
Richard Greasley, a former Adey Steel apprentice and now Production Director at the Adey Steel Group, said: “It was great to give so many young people an insight into working life at the Adey Steel Group.
“Training the next generation in engineering, fabrication and welding is critical to the long-term future not just of Adey Steel but also the wider UK steel fabrication industry. The steel fabrication industry workforce is ageing, and we will increasingly need more apprentices in a variety of roles to help us deliver the critical infrastructure projects that are needed across a number of sectors.”
