Adey Steel Welcome In Aspiring Apprentices
Want to learn and earn? Want an apprenticeship that teaches you fantastic practical skills? Want a career that will last a lifetime? Want to join a fantastic company making products for national infrastructure, roads, railways, houses, and energy? If this sounds of interest, Adey Steel apprenticeships could be the perfect way to boost your career.
Last week we were pleased to welcome in the next cohort of aspiring apprentices to showcase the opportunities they have available to them to kickstart their careers. They spent the day finding out more about Adey Steel Group, speaking to some of our current apprentices and undertaking a shopfloor walkabout.
“A really useful day for both us and the potential apprentices. Getting them in and showing them around, as well as giving them the opportunity to talk to current apprentices and employees who have gone on to senior management positions is a great way to showcase our apprenticeship programme.” – Rob Hall, Operations Director
Despite the stereotypes, apprenticeships offer the same (if not more) than the typical university pathway, combining on-the-job learning and upskilling with studying, whilst earning a salary. They are recognised as a key player in addressing the skills gaps within the industry as the ageing workforce begins to retire. The development of technical skills, as well as more general employability skills, help to prepare young people for a successful career in the working world.
“After years of working in jobs that weren’t what I wanted to do, I decided to take on an apprenticeship because unlike university it allowed me to change my career path almost instantly and doing so, I have acquired so much more confidence and knowledge in IT through the hands-on experience which has solidified what I truly want to do for my future.” – Bradley Sheppard, Apprentice IT Systems Administrator
There is often the view that apprenticeships don’t lead anywhere or offer the chance of promotions. This is a false perception, as proved by several of our senior team throughout Adey Steel Group.
Adam Newton joined Adey Steel as an apprentice back in 1997, completing his studies at Leicester College. Since then, Adam has worked his way through the company from taking on the role of Welding Co-ordinator in 2009 to his current role as Group Welding Manager. The company have supported him through completing multiple qualifications, such as the most recent certification of International Welding Technologist – highlighting just one of the ways we invest in our employee’s development.
Our Apprenticeship schemes provide the opportunity to:
-Develop the skills and knowledge required for a rewarding career
-Gain valuable experience in the workplace and get paid a salary
-Gain qualifications that match your job role at the same time as working
-A great alternative to full-time education
-Combine college teaching with on-the-job learning
-Learn a huge range of technical skills from experience skilled workers, giving you a fantastic career in engineering
-Open doorways to a wider range of construction and engineering careers
