Investing in the Future Generations
Throughout our 97-year history, we have recognised the benefit of investing in our employees and supporting young people in the local community to give them boosted opportunities within their careers. By offering the opportunity for year-long work placements it helps local university students to gain valuable work experience during their degree to help boost their opportunities when graduating.
We have partnered with Engineering Development Trust over the past few years on their Year in Industry placement scheme. The organisation helps with supporting students looking for roles as well as providing additional benefits to them once they have secured a role. They offer vacancies in multiple areas, including marketing, engineering, business, and finance. The work they do is a crucial part of helping to overcome the worker shortage within the STEM industry.
This year, we have had two placement students working at Adey Steel Group: Jahin Touhidul in the role of Business Improvement Co-ordinator and Lauren Bunyan in the role of Sales and Marketing Co-ordinator.
“For my placement, I was looking for a company that would help me grow as an individual and support my organizational and industry understanding. During my placement at Adey Steel Group, I felt they have checked all the boxes and have given me the experience that would allow me to propel my career to the next stage. I have worked on multiple different projects and would recommend Adey Steel Group to anyone who is thinking of joining this wonderful family.” Jahin Touhidul
“I think placements are a great opportunity to make yourself more competitive within the graduate job market as it gives you another reason to stand out from the crowd. My role at Adey Steel has given me the opportunity to experience a whole new side of Marketing that I had considered a career in prior to starting my placement. I have been able to learn a huge amount about the steel fabrication industry and applying marketing theory to the company – skills I’ll be able to take forward into my final year of university and beyond.” – Lauren Bunyan
Our current Group Business Improvement Manager, Andy Leather, was also a previous business improvement placement student, who has now returned to work for us once again since completing his studies.
“The placement opportunity here at Adey Steel Group gives not only the student invaluable career and life skills but also gives the company a pro-active individual who aids the senior management team with a huge number of projects to drive continuous improvement. The student is part of the company, they do not sit on the outside looking in. They get involved at all levels within the organisation and have the chance to take what they have learnt in their degree and apply it to a real-life scenario - their ideas and actions are listened to and usually actioned upon; it is a very valued position within the group.” - Andy Leather
We look forward to welcoming more students into the company for their placements in the upcoming years.
