Okehampton Interchange Reaches Major Construction Milestone
Okehampton Interchange, a new fully accessible station in Devon, moved a step closer to welcoming passengers following the completion of a major stage of construction.
A 25m-long steel footbridge, a lift shaft, four supporting columns for a staircase, and three sections of the staircase were successfully lifted into place by a 350-tonne crane. The footbridge will provide access from the 200-space car park to the station’s single platform, which was supported by 107 coping stones that have now been laid.
The Adey Steel team played a key role in the project, supporting Octavius Infrastructure with the installation of a new bridge structure weighing 63 tonnes. The works included a 26.5m main span, lift shaft, and stairs, which were delivered to site pre-clad and installed over just three consecutive possessions.
This project showcased precise planning, engineering expertise, and effective collaboration across all teams involved, highlighting Adey Steel’s commitment to delivering bridges that connect communities.
