Overview
Balfour Beatty commissioned Adey Steel to design, fabricate, and deliver a series of 400kV Full Line Tension Gantries in support of ongoing power and distribution activities associated with the Hinckley Point C project. The scope required large-scale structural capability, precision fabrication, and careful logistical planning.
Scope
The project comprised the manufacture of four heavy-duty steel gantries, each designed to support significant line tension loads within a high-voltage transmission environment. To ensure quality and accuracy, a full trial assembly was completed prior to galvanising, allowing dimensional checks and verification before final finishing.
Technical Specifications
- Contract Number: 8184
- Delivery Date: May 2025
- Quantity: 4 gantries
- Weight: 28 tonnes per gantry
- Dimensions: 22 metres long x 15 metres high
- Structure Type: 400kV Full Line Tension Gantry
Following successful trial assembly, the gantries were galvanised and supplied in kit form to facilitate efficient transport and on-site erection by the client. This approach minimised site handling requirements while maintaining structural integrity and installation accuracy.
The gantries were delivered on schedule and met all project requirements, supporting the continued development of critical UK power and distribution infrastructure at Hinckley Point C. The project demonstrates Adey Steel’s capability in delivering complex, large-scale steel structures for high-voltage energy applications.
