Adey Steel has provided a full design and manufacture service for a new Gasification Facility in Surrey.
The gasification plant in Shepperton provides a bulk material handling solution for the storage and discharge of refuse-derived fuel (RDF). Once fully operational, it will take approximately 40,000 tonnes of residual food waste from households across North Surrey every year and process it to generate 3.5MWs of energy for the national grid - enough to power 8,000 homes.
The project, which was carried out on behalf of one of our key customers, involved the use of almost 250 tonnes of steel by the team at Adey Steel's headquarters in Loughborough for the main bunker and associated steelwork. The EfW (Energy from Waste) facility forms part of the Surrey Eco Park which was developed by SUEZ Recycling and Recovery as part of its 25-year PFI contract with Surrey County Council.
Adey Steel has extensive experience working in the material handling sector. It recently manufactured and supplied over 450 tonnes of steel for an aggregrate bin structure at Mountsorrel Quarry. It also designed, manufacturerd and supplied two bespoke cake storage silos, accompanying support structures, platforms and stairs, for a major waste water treatment plant in the South of England.
