Adey Steel has supplied and installed two U-Deck Underbridges for a replacement bridge in Portsmouth.
The Loughborough-based specialist steel fabricator was commissioend by the client to manufacture, paint, waterproof and then supply the two U-Deck Underbridges prior to a New Year blockade at the site on Cow Lane in Cosham, Portsmouth.
The existing structures required replacing to bring capacity to RA8 and to reduce the bridge strike risk to double amber. A 450-tonne road crane was used to remove the existing bridge deck and replace it with the two U-Deck Underbridges fabricated by Adey Steel. The underbridges were fabricated out of 100mm solid steel deck at the company's headquarters in the East Midlands to guarantee a mixture of strength and clearance.
