Adey Steel have supported their specialist stadia client in fabricating over 400 tonnes of steelwork to increase the seating capacity to tier one of the Arsenal Emirates Stadium in London. The complex engineering project provided a walkway extension to the face of the concrete seating tier that sits above the lower seating. The walkway platform was supported from underneath by using over 100 specially designed cantilevered support columns with haunch connections to meet the required dynamic loading.
The project increase the capacity of the stadium by 800 seats with minimal impact to the existing concrete structure or affecting any viewpoints from around the ground. The work was carried out within the strict programme windows surrounding the football off-season and stadium concerts and all parties were extremely happy with the collaborative approach taken.
