The project involved the design, fabrication, surface finish and assembly of 2 50-metre-long span bridges.
Adey Steel fabricated 2 identical truss bridges – one for passengers and one for vehicles. The refurbishment aimed to improve the user experience through updating the dated safety features and deteriorating finishes. The paint finish was completed by our specialist partner, Jack Tighe Group, as the marine environment demands a high specification against saline corruption.
The bridge was split into 8 sections to allow for transport and restricted access limitations – with sections fabricated at multiple workshops across Adey Steel. The splice connections were checked with laser surveying equipment to ensure exact fit. Off-site pre-assembly took place to ensure exact fit-up and minimise duration onsite.
Installation involved the loading of both bridges onto barges, moving them down the river before using barge cranes with plant and access equipment to put them into place.
