Specialist steel fabricator Adey Steel has installed a 60-tonne cantilver canopy over the pedestrian area of the popular Lakeside Shopping Centre.
The canopy, which was manufactured off-site at the company's headquarters in Loughborough, featured four complex “tree” columns and supports, providing an aesthetic design whilst optimising the large amounts of uninterrupted space beneath.
The paint finish was the final stage of production undertaken by the Adey Steel team prior to installation. This was equally challenging as needed to match the existing structure as well as withstand the heavy foot traffic past the structural support.
The complex installation at the Lakeside Shopping Centre in Thurrock involved working in and amongst existing buildings and around a live shopping centre environment. Consequently, the majority of the installation, including the glazed roof, took place overnight to minimise disruption to Lakeside Shopping and to help deliver the project in the most efficient time possible.
