Adey Steel delivered specialist piling works for the Wigan–Bolton electrification, a £100m Network Rail upgrade of the 6.5-mile route. The programme involved hundreds of new overhead line stanchions, 21 km of power lines, bridge reconstructions and platform extensions.
-
Piled foundations to support OLE stanchions and associated structures.
-
On-site installation carried out safely within possession windows.
-
Testing & certification to meet Network Rail standards.
By providing reliable piled foundations, Adey Steel enabled principal contractors to install new stanchions and complete structural upgrades with confidence in the substructure.
The route’s electrification has now reached energisation, with the first electric test trains running in 2025. Adey Steel is proud to have laid the groundwork for this key milestone in the North West’s rail network.
To support the installation of this equipment Adey Steel, which operates a dedicated 30,000 square foot piling facility at its purpose-built headquarters in Loughborough, has fabricated, welded, tested and delivered some 500 plus tonnes of 610 x 16 CHS bossed piles.
