Adey Steel Group switches to LED lighting
The Adey Steel Group is aiming to save 30 tonnes of Co2 a year following the roll out of LED lighting throughout the business.
The award-winning steel fabrication specialist, which was founded almost 100 years ago, has replaced the remaining fluorescent lighting throughout the business with ETL certified LED lighting.
A team, led by Operations Manager Andy Leather, oversaw the project which involved installing 300 LED luminaries, including bulkhead, highbay, linear and recessed fittings, in the offices and factory floor on the five-acre site in Loughborough.
A state-of-the-art sensoring system, which automatically deactivates the lights in a room following a period of undetected motion, was also installed to maximise cost savings while minimising energy usage. The Adey Steel Group is aiming to save 120,000 kWh annually by moving to LED lighting.
“It’s great to have finally made the switch to LED lighting,” explained Robert Hall, Operations Director at the Adey Steel Group. “We’re already starting to see the benefits of our investment, and alongside updating our company vehicle fleet to hybrid and electric vehicles (EV’s) alongside installing charging points, were making real progress towards our goal of becoming a carbon neutral business by 2050 in line with the UK’s target.”
The move to LED lighting forms part of a Net Zero Carbon Roadmap that is currently being rolled out by the Adey Steel Group. Other initiatives include upgrades to the digital systems, automation of the manufacturing processes and improvements to the building and infrastructure.
