Specialist steel fabricator Adey Steel was awarded a contract to manufacture and supply bossed piles for use on the Core Valley Lines project in South Wales.
The Core Valley Lines, which incorporates the railway lines to Aberdare, Coryton, Merthyr Tydfil, Rhymney and Treherbert, are being modernised between 2022 – 2025 as part of the wider South Wales Metro project, an integrated network of bus, rail and active travel designed to improve connectivity across South Wales.
The electrification of the Core Valley Lines requires this entire section of the network to have new Overhead Line Equipment (OLE) as part of a major overhaul of its infrastructure.
To support the installation of this equipment Adey Steel, which operates a dedicated 30,000 square foot piling facility at its purpose-built headquarters in Loughborough, has fabricated, welded, tested and delivered some 500 plus tonnes of 610 x 16 CHS bossed piles.
