Adey Steel has played its part in the £30m refurbishment of the iconic Barmouth Viaduct.
The Barmouth Viaduct is a Grade II-listed single track wooden railway viaduct across the River Mawdach in North Wales. Over 800 metres long, it is the largest timber viaduct in Wales and one of the oldest of its type in regular use across the UK.
Unfortunately, age has caught up with the Barmouth Viaduct, and now at over 150 years old, it is in poor condition. Many of the timber elements of the viaduct have decayed significantly over time and a large proportion of the metallic elements have corroded. It now requires major restoration to ensure the resilience and reliability for passengers on the picturesque Cambrian Coast Line railway line for generations to come.
Adey Steel, tbe award-winning, family-owned-and-operated specialist steel infrastructure specialist, was contracted to manufacture and supply strengthening bracings to permanently support the piers and temporary steelwork to facilitate the sliding and final movement of the new 160-tonne metallic spans.
