Adey Steel has supplied and installed a single span bridge as part of the Gooseholme Footbridge project in Kendal, Cumbria.
The £2m project, which was funded by Cumbria County Council and others, saw Adey Steel manufacture a replacement single span footbridge for use by residents of the famous market town in the Lake District.
The previous footbridge, which has provided safe crossing since 1875, had been washed away during Storm Desmond in 2015.
As part of the process, the Environment Agency was widely consulted to ensure that the bridge complemented the existing Flood Defence System.
The replacement bridge, which was fabricated by Adey Steel in Loughborough prior to delivery to site, was 3.5 metres wide, which ensured access not just for pedestrians but also cyclists and wheelchair users. Due to the size of the footbridge, it was divided into four sections after a trial assembly for delivery to Kendal. Once onsite, it required a strict programme of works to ensure disruption within the local community was kept to a minium.
Adey Steel has a long history of fabricating bridges for clients. These have incuded a 100-metre feature link bridge for the Queens Medical Centre in Nottingham together with the manufacture and install of two feature link bridges as part of the Embassy Gardens development in Central London.
