Specialist steel fabricator Adey Steel has completed the manufacture and supply of over 450 tonnes of fabricated steel for a new aggregate bin structure at Mountsorrel Quarry in North West Leicestershire.
Mountsorrel Quarry is a granite quarry, renowned for its distinctive pink rock, which is in high demand on some of the UK’s biggest construction projects.
However, the existing aggregate bin facility was destroyed by fire. Adey Steel was commissioned by the contractor to manufacture and supply over 450 tonnes of fabricated steel as part of a replacement Aggregate Bin structure.
The aggregate bin side walls were manufactured from steel plate at the company's purpose-built headquarters in Loughborough and externally stiffened using steel sections and internally with wear plates. The base plates were made from 40mm thick steel plate weighing approximately four tonnes each. All items were fabricated by our team of fabrication experts to BS EN 1090 EXC 2 and galvanised to BS EN 1461 standards.
Adey Steel has worked on a number of major construction projects in the last couple of years. Most recently this has included the manufacture and supply of a bespoke 46-tonne crane grillage for use at Bankside Yards West in Central London. As part of this particular project, the Adey Steel team at the company's headquarters carried out a full trial assembly using a bespoke jig which mimics the crane base perfectly to ensure an accurate fit up to ±1mm tolerance of the connection bolt boxes.
